NEWENT teenager, Harry Taylor put on a brave face when he agreed to have his chest waxed to raise money for charity.

Harry, aged 18 decided to raise money for the Chill Out Zone in Newent one evening whilst having drinks with his friends. He, along with his friends, attend the Chill Out and felt it could do with more funding.

Harry said “ I have always enjoyed going to the Chill Out and saw this as a way to put something back in, so I felt any pain suffered was worth it. The Chill Out has been good to me and my friends and the youth in Newent in general and is great for teenagers in Newent”.

Newent town councillor, Colin Thomas added: "The deed was carried out by Harry’s sister, Amy, at the Chill out Zone and he was supported by a number of his friends. So far £80 has been raised in what can only be described as an incredible gesture by Harry.

"The Chill Out Zone in Broad Street, Newent, is a Youth Activities and Services Centre and a Drop In Youth and Community Cafe for young people from the age of 11 to 19 and is managed, supported and funded by The Newent Initiative Trust."

Cllr Thomas added: "As well as a meeting place it provides activities such as cooking, gardening, Xbox, pool, trips and many other activities for the youth of Newent and surrounding areas."

The Chill Out Zone is open Mondays 7pm - 9pm; Tuesdays 6.30pm - 9pm; Wednesdays 6pm - 9pm, and Fridays 7pm - 9pm.

The Drop In Youth and Community Cafe serves tea, coffee, cake and biscuits and is open on Wednesdays, from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

Every Tuesday there is a separate group specifically for young people who particularly need some respite away from home environment. Professionals who are working with young people who may benefit from this group are welcome to make a referral by contacting the manager via email.

The Chill Out Zone is also a C-Card distribution centre.
