FIRE crews have tackled a blaze in a Herefordshire field, with a baler and four aces of straw stubble also going up in flames.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said three crews from Hereford and one from Peterchurch were called to the "large vehicle fire" in Brinsop, north-west of Hereford.

A water carrier and off-road firefighting vehicle were among the crews at the scene after the call came in at 1.32pm on Wednesday (August 4), a spokesperson for the service said.

"On arrival, it was discovered that the vehicle was an agricultural straw baler in a field with one bale of straw in the baler still on fire," they said.

"Approximately four acres of straw stubble were also affected.

"Crews liaised with the farmer to remove the burning straw bale from the rear of the baler with two hosereel jets, a fogging unit and beaters used to fight the fire."

Nobody was injured in the fire.
