STORE Cattle/November 11 – 743: Just a nice trade. Smart little cattle were at a real premium but stronger sorts were slightly less money. Steers peaked at 219.0p, heifers 285.0p and bulls 293.0p. All bar one beast found new homes.

Limousin breeding bulls sold up to £2,026.

Feeding cows sold to £900 average £672.

Strong store lambs to £78.00 average £73.10, medium store lambs to £71.00 average £65.60, small store lambs to £62.00 average £58.50, mini store lambs to £57.00 average £52.20. Not much of a lamb under £61.00 right the way through. Grazing ewes to £69.00.

Calves and Weanlings – 17: A nice calf trade with rearing bull calves to £420.00 average £299.00, rearing heifer calves to £275.00 average £176.20.

Finished Cattle – 323: An increased entry was competed for by a very strong contingent of buyers. Best cattle made a marked premium with steers reaching 227.5p/kg, heifers 245.0p/kg and bulls 227.0p/kg. All sorts met strong competition.

Prices were as follows:-

Medium Steers: Best quality to 199.5p average 199.5p; Standard quality to 196.5p average 192.5p; Also rans to 169.5p; Overall average 184.1p.

Heavy Steers: Best quality to 227.5p average 209.9p; Standard quality to 196.5p average 189.7p; Also rans to 184.0p; Overall average 194.8p.

Medium Heifers: Best quality to 239.0p average 222.0; Standard quality to 194.5p average 189.0p; Also rans to 178.5p; Overall average 188.1p

The Friesian bulls were a particularly good trade again and it should be remembered that our averages include lots of bulls over 16 months and some over 30 months.

Barren Cows and Old Bulls – 73: A good firm trade considering the prices reported elsewhere. Plenty of plain cows in the entry and these are making no more anywhere else.

Grade 3 Cows to 117.5p average 109.9p.

Grade 4 Cows to 103.0p average 78.7p.

Finished Sheep – 4,316: A more difficult lamb trade. Export seems to be completely flat even with the currency situation as it is.

Heavy Lambs to 219.0p average 158.6p.

Overweight Lambs to 155.0p average 146.0p.

Export quality lambs sold up to 219.5p per kilo and averaged 173.7p per kilo and home trade lambs sold up to 163.5p per kilo and averaged 158.3p per kilo.

Cull Ewes: A larger entry of ewes met a trade to match last week with all sheep in keen demand. Ewes selling to £120.00, average £58.78. Rams selling to £100.00 to average £62.14.
