THE Queen's upcoming jubilee has been marked by a Herefordshire school with the planting of a commemorative tree.
St Thomas Cantilupe CE Primary School in Coningsby Street, Hereford, was chosen to represent Herefordshire’s schools in the planting of a tree for the Queen’s platinum jubilee.
The platinum jubilee in 2022 will mark the Queen's 70th year on the throne.
Edward Harley OBE, Lord Lieutenant of Herefordshire, represented the Queen at the service and joined with the school in celebrating the day.
The Queen’s Green Canopy is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark the Queen's platinum jubilee in 2022.
The initiative invites people across the United Kingdom to 'plant a tree for the jubilee'.
Children from St Thomas’ read poems, prayers and sang to mark 70 years of service.
Pupils, Amelia Koleczek and Rayne Exton, then helped Mr Harley to plant the commemorative tree.
The children had the additional responsibility of using a silver spade, last used by Queen Mary, the Queen's grandmother.
Claire McKeown, head teacher, said: "I am very proud of the staff and children. Today was a day that all of us will remember."
The Dean of Hereford, Rev Sarah Brown led a special blessing to end the service.
