A KIND-hearted school girl is raising money to build a new chicken pen to get back to her fundraising ways.

Kitty Hatch, from Putley, has been raising funds for good causes for the past 12 months by tending her chickens to sell eggs, jams and marmalade and has raised hundreds of pounds in the process.

The 8 year old's fundraising efforts were thwarted however when her chicken hatch was broken into by a mink who killed her 15 chickens last month.

Now, the determined Ashperton Primary School pupil is raising money to build a new, more secure home for her chickens. The money raised will help buy a concrete floor and a mesh to help keep the chickens safe.

Kitty's mother Charlotte praised her daughter's generosity and said: "She has got a very kind heart and a good soul. She is one of a kind."

Kitty's fundraising began when she raised money for the British Legion to install a bench in Ross-on-Wye in tribute to fallen soldiers.

She was inspired to action by the memory of her great-uncle who died in the Falklands War.

The youngster is also fundraising for the Little Princess Trust and is on the lookout for another charity to support.

To build a new pen, Kitty has set herself the target of raising £300 and is over half way to her goal.
