NHS staff in Hereford can use the city's Beryl Bikes for free during the coronavirus crisis.

The firm behind the bike share scheme and their local partners, Herefordshire Council, will be giving free access to NHS workers.

All staff need to do is sign up to the Beryl Bike app and log in using their NHS email address.

Then they get free access to travel 'in a safe, socially distant and enjoyable way.'

Beryl's point out that the government has shown support for cycling as a means of essential transport and exercise during the pandemic by allowing bike shops to stay open to provide maintenance and repairs, helping key workers to use bicycles as a mode of transport.

Phil Ellis, CEO, said: “Our mission has always been to lower the barrier to cycling and get more people on bikes. Now more than ever it’s imperative we find methods to do so, while cycling offers a transport option that is socially distant and the opportunity for safe outdoor exercise."

"At this pivotal moment, many people need safe options to travel across our cities. Whether used by key workers who must travel to and from work, people that need to purchase essentials or help others to do so, or to enjoy 30 minutes of exercise safely, we have seen access to these bikes make a huge impact already."

"We can not thank our partners and team enough for making this a possibility."
