HEREFORD Ballet School had students competing in the Wales and West Cecchetti Ballet Awards recently. These took place on the main stage at Congress Theatre Cwmbran.

Representing the school in the junior section for under 9s were: Sianna Chahal and Tabitha Powell. Willow Fedor, Kristina O'Brien and Libbi Powell danced in the middle section for under 12s.

Each section has exercises and a solo dance to learn and perform, provided by the Cecchetti Ballet Society and taught by their class teacher.

The girls, in addition to their grade classes also attend Hereford Ballet School's Ballet Associates classes. Talented dancers within the school who love to dance and perform are invited to attend these weekly classes. They are taught actual ballet repertoire from famous ballets and are challenged with new choreography to innovative and contemporary music. They are given opportunities to dance in festivals and displays and to perform to audiences throughout the year.

Darius James the artistic director of Ballet Cymru commended all the girls on their hard work and lovely dancing and encouraged them to continue working to develop their technique and to really show how much they enjoy performing.

The Greatest Showcase, an open day featuring dances, demonstrations, stalls and opportunities to try different dance styles is the next exciting event, taking place at the Point 4 in Hereford in July. Further information about all the school has to offer can be found at herefordballet.co.uk
