CITY of Hereford Rotary Club president Ray Bayliss will soon be winding up his 12 months in office but proved he can still show club members a thing or two on the putting green.

Ray was crowned men's champion at the annual tournament at Herefordshire Golf Club with Richard Hammonds runner-up.

Anne Ellis beat off the challenge of defending champion Heather Gorringe to take the women's prize.

With events still continuing, a number of members made the short trip to Stoke Lacy for an evening tour of the Wye Valley Brewery at Stoke Lacy, enjoying a tasting of some of the products along the way.

One of the highlights of Ray's presidential year was the hugely successful duck race which produced proceeds of more than £11,000.

"Much of the financial success was because all the race prizes had been donated, even the £1000 anonymously," said Ray,

"We had very good weather on the day, too, when ticket sales were exceptional and made up for reduced advanced sales.

"We were especially grateful to Hereford Rowing Club, the Sea Cadets, Wye Floats and Hereford River Festival for all the help that they gave us."

Almost all of the ducks which 'escaped' due to problems with the boom at the end of the race have now been recovered.
