NORTH Herefordshire Division winners Luctonians CC, played South Herefordshire Division winners Colwall CC, in the (U9s) County Championship Final at Pentland Gardens on August 27.
In beautiful playing conditions, Luctonians batted first scoring an impressive 316 runs, despite some accurate bowling by the Colwall youngsters.
In reply Colwall could only manage 211 in their allotted overs, restricted in the main due to tight bowling and excellent fielding by their Luctonians opponents, their catching being particularly impressive.
The result saw 'Lucs' win the county finals for the first time at this (U9s) level - being the first north league team to win the trophy.
It was an enthralling game with tight fielding, skilful batting and great bowling, in which both teams displayed great effort and sportsmanship.
Strong support from both the Colwall and Luctonian cricketing 'families' ensured a memorable occasion for all involved.
