UPDATE: Hereford shop issues major update as closure put on pause
A Hereford city centre shop is shutting its doors for the final time TODAY (Saturday, August 31).
Sands, which is based in the former JD Sports unit in Hightown, has announced its closure, with a “closing down sale” ongoing, offering up to 70 per cent off some of its stock.
A spokesperson for the shop, which sells “fine leather, gifts, and travels goods” said they have no choice but to close, after having apparently “lost the lease” to the property.
The business added that they believed both footfall and spending on the high street has fallen significantly, and they're unable to compete with "rising bills".
However, keen customers should keep their eyes peeled for future developments, as the shop could be returning in the future, with the spokesperson adding that they are “actively looking for other suitable units to move to”.
“We are sure the Hereford store is not going to make any profits this year, but as long as we find a suitable store that breaks even, we will move, all this is to avoid redundancies," they said.
