A NEW shop has opened in Hereford city centre and aims to help young people with learning difficulties and disabilities.

The new charity shop is in aid of charity National Star and sells fashionable clothes, books, toys and home accessories. They also have a range of student-made ceramic and fused glassware items and student-designed and printed cards.

The shop is at 6A in St Peter’s Street, Hereford.

Some 45 students with learning difficulties and disabilities attend National Star, in Ledbury Road, Hereford, as well as seven young adults living in a long-term residence.

Tina Walsh, retail operations manager for National Star, said: “National Star is very proud to be part of the Hereford community with its education and long-term care. Opening a charity shop in Hereford was the next natural step.

“Not only will be an important way for us to raise our profile with shoppers but the shop will also provide vital work experience for the students.”

Two current students at National Star in Hereford were guests of honour and officially opened the shop.

National Star says it supports young people with complex disabilities and learning difficulties so that they can realise their aspirations.

It added that the new charity shop will provide it with vital funds to ensure it has the specialist facilities and equipment these young adults need.

“We are only as good as our donations so we would welcome your pre-loved treasures which now need a new home,” Ms Walsh added.

“Every donation will make a difference to the young people we work with.”
