EMPLOYEES from the city's NPower's office have taken part in their own Tour de France-style fundraiser.

The Worcester team were among NPower's 40 cyclists who raised £30,000 for the charity, which was match-funded by the firm to take the toal amount raised passed £60,000.

The money raised will be going to Macmillan Cancer Support, which supports people who have cancer, and their families.

The epic 184 mile ride took place at the end of July with the team initially cycling through the ‘Garden of England’ to Newhaven and then onto the ferry to Dieppe.

Day two took them from Dieppe to Beauvais, covering 75 miles, passing through many picturesque French villages on the way.

And on day three they rode all the way to the final stop, to one of Paris’ most iconic structures - the Eiffel Tower.

Thomas Harris, compliance assurance officer at Npower, said: "Cycling through Paris and then eventually seeing the Eiffel Tower was brilliant and I felt a huge level of achievement, not just for completing the challenge but also for all the hours of training I put in and the huge amount of money we have raised for Macmillan.”

Catrin Hale, senior partnership development manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, added: “We are delighted to see Npower employees once again taking on such an incredible challenge to raise money for Macmillan.

"As the number of people living with cancer in the UK continues to rise, the efforts of our supporters at npower will help us be there for even more people who need us.

"The money raised will be used to provide Macmillan with fuel grants to help people living with cancer who are struggling with their energy bills.”

Npower and Macmillan have been working together for over 14 years and have helped more than 34,000 families with cancer.
