Eleven teams of two took part. The race was officially started from the Kinsley by town crier Derrick Price and Knighton mayor Chris Branford. Competitors had to drink half a pint of beer before one got into the barrow and the other pushed. The course took them first to the Horse and Jockey, then Knighton Hotel, George and Dragon, Golden Lion, RAFA Club, Plough Hotel and the Red Lion with each competitor drinking half a pint at each stop. The finish line was at the clock tower.

The winners were Tom Powell and Jack Barrett and although all the other teams finished, many team members were feeling rather ill.
