FOOD BANK - More than people including members of churches together in Knighton and district, the mayor of Knighton Cllr Chris Branford and county Councillor Peter Medlicott went to a meeting in the Methodist Church to find out more about setting up a food bank. Baptist minister Rev Maggie Rich said: “Many people are struggling to make ends meet, especially if benefits are cut, and parents might be asking they can feed their children. A food bank would help people through a difficult patch until various other agencies take over. We know there is a lot of need in Knighton and when things go wrong they need a back-up plan.” Tom and Jackie, who help run Hereford Community Larder, told the meeting how they set up and now run the larder which is giving out about 50 food parcels a week. The Food Bank has been headed by Knighton and District Churches together but will be run as a community project. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer can call 01547 528443. A steering group has already been set up and a meeting will be held soon to look at the different aspects of what needs to be done to be ready to open in September or October.
