POLICE have named a man who was found dead in the River Wye last month.

Arturs Polonankins was discovered near to the old bridge in Hereford on Wednesday, May 30.

The 44-year-old was pulled from the water by emergency services, but was pronounced dead at the scene.

The death is not thought to be suspicious and the matter has been referred to the Herefordshire coroner.

An inquest is due to be held later this year.

Detective Constable Catherine Taylor, from Hereford CID, said that Mr Polonankins was of Latvian nationality and had recently moved to Herefordshire to live and work.

"Because of this, unfortunately it did take us some time to identify him," she said.

"However, Mr Polonakins' family have now been notified of his passing and our thoughts are with them at this sad time.

"During this investigation, we received a number of calls from members of the public and I would like to personally thank them all for their assistance."
