PROMISES AUCTION - The village hall was full with expectant bidders last week for the Grand Auction of Promises to raise funds for Aymestrey and Leinthall Earls churches.

There were almost 50 promised offers of goods and services ranging from sacks of potatoes, lamb for the freezer, trailer loads of logs, a chauffeur for an evening out to the services of a chef, all of which came under auctioneer David Thompson’s hammer.

Thanks go to everyone who donated and bought so generously and to everyone who helped to make the evening such a success.

CHURCH - There will be a service of Holy Communion on Sunday at 11am at Aymestrey Church. May 13 is Rogation Sunday and the service will take place at Hall Farm, Leinthall Earls, at 11am.

PARISH PLAN - After a lot of work over many months by a dedicated few, a draft version of the Aymestrey Parish Plan has now been prepared. So that parishioners can review the plan and add their comments and suggestions, there will be an open meeting in Aymestrey Village Hall on May 18 at 7.30pm.

A free buffet and drinks will be provided.

After this meeting the final plan can be presented to Herefordshire Council for approval.

COMPETITION - To accompany the parish plan public meeting there will be a photography competition with the winning photo being used for the front cover of the plan.

Pictures of the following subjects which reflect the parish will be welcome: communications, transport, roads, tourism, housing, environment, the river and community facilities.

There will be cash prizes. Send photographs to kenholland12@hotmail.co.uk or bring them to be judged on the evening of the public meeting on May 18.

JUBILEE - Aymestrey parishioners are reminded that Monday is the deadline to return their acceptance forms to register for their child’s free Diamond Jubilee mug and/or attendance at the jubilee celebration at Gatley on June 4. Return forms to the box in Aymestrey Church porch or to Mrs M Griffiths, Corner Cottage, Yatton HR6 9TW, or call 770498.
