GARDENERS’ ASSOCIATION - Members received a wonderful insight into New Zealand with a talk and slide show from Roger Umpleby. As well as many photographs of the wonderful plant life he had lots of interesting information and pictures of the islands. It has no natural bees and plant pollenation is via birds. Visitors and new members to the Gardening Club are always welcome. To join a taster evening, meet on the second Tuesday of the month in the community centre at 7.30pm. At the next meeting on May 8 speaker Sophie Hughes talking on old pinks. For more information, call secretary Len Day on 01432 880657. Winners of the single stem competition were: Peter Mann, with Cath Gunby second and Peggy Wall third. Despite unusual weather patterns there was a surprisingly good number of entries for the spring show, all to the usual high standard. Winners were: Flower class, Carol Rawlings; Floral art, Janet Lloyd; Cooking and preserves, Janet Lloyd; Children’s button necklace, Anna Skryme.
Members now look forward to the autumn show on September 8.
PLANT SALE – Following the very successful plant sale last year the event runs again on May 11 and 12 in the garden of Mrs Sue Dutson at Woodcroft, Paradise Green, Marden (opposite the mini-market). All donations of plants, or anything to do with gardening, will be gratefully received.
