THREE students had a golden date with royalty to celebrate their success in a respected award scheme.

Hereford Cathedral School pupils Felicity Hughes, Emma Lewis and Olivia Smith met the Queen’s son Prince Edward after completing the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award.

The trio attended the St James’s Palace bash to receive their certificates in recognition of the hard work, determination and perseverance shown during the past 18 months.

The students’ work included hiking in the Scottish Highlands and Swiss Alps, helping organise events for youth organisations and volunteering to coach swimming, netball and hockey at various county schools Olivia said: “Doing the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award has made me a more confident and outgoing person by making me get involved with the community, and I would recommend it to everyone. If I had the chance to do it all over again, I would.”
