PLANS to build a new Sainsbury’s in Ledbury will be unveiled at a public consultation this week.

The retailer wants to build a 30,000 square foot store on the Galebreaker site opposite land already earmarked by Tesco.

Residents can comment on the Sainsbury’s plan during an exhibition at the community hall tomorrow and Saturday.

Plans will also be on show for a fortnight in the reception of Galebreaker, which would be relocated as part of the deal.

Sainsbury’s says the store on Leadon Way will create 220 jobs and would include a petrol station, cafe and 340 parking spaces.

Meanwhile, Ledbury Poetry Festival directors have urged Tesco opponents to write letters of protest in verse.

Organisers believe a few well-crafted lines can speak volumes and could offer prizes and festival places to the best writers.

Poets are encouraged to send their attempts to Herefordshire Council planning officer Andrew Ashcroft.

The deadline for comments on the Tesco application has also been extended to September 22 due to problems with publicising details on the UK Planning website.
