CHILDREN in a market town could receive a present under plans to celebrate a Royal milestone.
Ledbury Town Council is getting into a party mood ahead of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on June 5 next year.
Councillors believe the Jubilee is a once-in-a-lifetime event and want to hold something memorable for the townsfolk.
One of the most popular ideas suggested was giving a memento to every child in Ledbury.
A similar scheme took place in 1953 when Ledbury marked the coronation with a giant hog roast and dozens of street parties.
Members of the environment and leisure committee also suggested holding parties on the High Street and Recreation Ground.
Councillor Martin Eager claimed the event needed to be “special” so children would fondly remember the festivities.
Councillor Allen Conway also suggested buying Union Flags for the event and forthcoming HMS Ledbury freedom party.
A lottery and precept rise to fund the festivities was also suggested before the committee launched a working party.
