THE county could be bidding an age-old county tradition farewell this weekend after a well-known Kington family decided to sell up.

Ninety-six-year-old Dorothy Jack has, along with her relatives, decided to sell the family’s Georgian home of Huntingdon Court.

The 57th annual Huntingdon Fete – due to take place on Saturday (July 16) between 3pm and 5pm – could, therefore, be the last.

Fete chairman Gwen Pattison said: “This may be the final chance for all the old and new Herefordshire families to come together to enjoy the traditional games which have amused them so much over the years.

“They will meet up with their old friends as they enjoy their home made teas, play ‘splat the rat’ and quoits, play old fashioned skittles, they will guess the weight of the ewe and the cake and, for the children, guess the numbers of balloons in the Mini.”

As usual, entry is free and a special bus will also operate from Kington, while all proceeds will go to Huntingdon Churches and Kington Care in the Community.
