A KINGTON butcher will be heading for the House of Lords after getting to the final of a national competition.
The Glyn Slade-Jones butchery shop, based in High Street, has won the Countryside Alliance award for local butcher in the West Midlands region.
The shop moves forward as one of 12 category finalists to the grand final on March 30 where one of the judges is TV chef Clarissa Dixon-Wright.
Judges for the awards - known as the local oscars - look not only the quality of its products but community aspects too.
"It really is something different. It's not just about being a butchery shop we have children come here and we try to educate them about and introduce them to the meat," said Margery Jones, a partner in the business.
"What we have found is that we are now competing with the big boys."
The shop celebrates its 30th anniversary next year and has won a total of nine awards from the Flavours of Herefordshire event.
