THE headteacher and staff at John Kyrle High School in Ross-on-Wye have been selected for a top role supporting other schools.

Nigel Griffiths has been appointed to the prestigious role of National Leader of Education (NLE) by the National College for Leadership of Schools and Children’s Services.

He is one of only 100 headteachers to be selected from across the country.

To mark the occasion he has been invited to the National College’s Learning and Conference Centre in Nottingham this month for a formal induction and training for the role in driving school improvement.

NLEs use their success and professionalism as school leaders, along with the staff in their school – designated a National Support School – to provide additional leadership capability in less well-performing schools or those in transition to federation or academy status.

Nigel Griffiths said NLE status was a “great honour” for the school and a salute to the work of staff and governors at John Kyrle over the past several years.
