NEWLYWED Alan O’Dea thought it was all over when his wedding ring went missing but his marriage is still in full swing thanks to a golf club cleaner’s underwear and her lucky penny.

Mr O’Dea, a retired police officer, was enjoying a round at Leominster’s Grove Golf and Bowl when the £400 band went missing six weeks after he wed Monica.

Hours of searching were later abandoned but thankfully, after attempts to sell her house proved continually fruitless, employee Maddie Williams made a move that would eventually pay off for both of them.

Because shortly after she put a coin in her bra for good luck not only did she discover the missing ring in a binned napkin – she also received an offer on her home.

Club owner Zena Helme said: “We contacted Mr and Mrs O’Dea and, ecstatic, they came back to collect the ring and to thank Maddie.

“We pride ourselves on our customer care but on this occasion we think we surpassed ourselves. None of us can believe how this ring was found.”

Mr O’Dea, aged 57, took Maddie a bunch of flowers and another penny afterwards, and said despite the stress it caused the whole experience proved to be quite uplifting.

“We could have bought another one, but it wouldn’t have been the same,” he said.

“It’s just inexplicable why she would have done what she did and where she found it. I don’t know who was screaming the most, Maddie or my wife,” he added.
