The annual fete was held at The Great House on Saturday 10th July by kind invitation of Andrew Bengough. Two hundred people attended and the many varied stalls were well patronized. Lady Bengough gave a prize for the craziest hat. The money from the fete is divided equally between the Church and Parish Hall and is a welcome source of income. Many parishioners return and still take part, the oldest volunteer this year being Penny Surridge who, aged 84years, still ran a wonderful tiny tots tea for the under 5’s. Hilary Armstrong always comes laden with beautiful plants although now living in Tillington. It was lovely to have young stallholders this year and see new faces running competitions and events. The Village Fete is an entirely English occasion, long may it flourish. Together with a gift from the concert that evening, £2,000 will have been made on the day.
