POLICE are warning Herefordshire shoppers to be on their guard following recent credit card thefts at supermarkets.
A Leominster woman had her card stolen at Sainsbury’s in Hereford on Tuesday July 6, which was used to withdraw £150 from an ATM.
The shopper was in her car when a man tapped on the window and asked for directions to the motorway. She got out to look at a map before the man left in a grey sports car with another man. The woman later realised that her card was missing and reported it to the police. The man was described as having a foreign accent, possibly Polish.
A week earlier, a woman in her 70s had her wallet stolen from her handbag at Tesco in Ledbury. A man, who had a foreign accent, opened her car door and threw a map on to her. He asked directions to London but the woman told him to go away.
She then noticed that her black wallet was missing.
The suspect is described as aged around 45 and wearing dark clothing with a light coloured cap. Anyone who notices anything suspicious should call police on 0300 333 3000.
