ONE of the most photographed homes in Herefordshire is up for sale.

Vaga House is inadvertently captured by many tourists taking snaps of its more famous neighbour, Hereford Cathedral.

But interested visitors are kept a safe distance from the luxury home as they stand capturing their pictures from the opposite banks of the River Wye.

The 19th century home is currently on the market for £1million and gives buyers the chance to own a property in the very centre of the city - but yet in a seemingly peaceful rural location.

It is believed that famous city composer Edward Elgar once visited the property which was first lived in by schoolteacher Mary Morris back in 1861.

Estate agents Hayes describe it as “a fine country home in a unique city setting”.

The new owners will be just two minutes’ walk from High Town, reducing the worry of finding a car parking space for shopping trips.

The four-bedroomed house takes its name - Vaga - from the Romans’ name for the Wye.

It boasts mature, private gardens with steps leading down to the river, while the house still boasts many of its original features including two impressive fireplaces.

Its proximity to the water adds to its “air of peace and tranquillity” according to the agents, while another strong selling point is that the house has never flooded despite its location.

Also included in the guide price of £995,000 is a 17th century Grade II listed cottage, which used to be a pub, adjoining the house.
