OSCAR Wilde’s classic comedy of manners, morals and handbags, The Importance of Being Earnest, is brought to Dore Abbey by Gloucesterbased Rain or Shine Theatre Company Directed by James Reynaron Wednesday (July 14).
When two Victorian gentlemen assume the name of Ernest to win the affections of two ladies, both determined to marry a man of that name, the scene is set for hilarious confusion in a world of handbags, perambulators, cucumber sandwiches, muffins, butlers, the English upper class, and of course, that theatrical tour de force – Lady Bracknell.
