READY Steady Win, the local charity dedicated to financially supporting Herefordshire's young talented sports people since 1994, is inviting applications for their next round of bursaries sponsored by Ross based PGL Travel Ltd.

The fund will consider applications for bursaries towards the cost of participating in any Ready Steady Win recognised sport at county level or above.

Applicants must be 10-20 years of age, either resident or educated in the county of Herefordshire, be a member of a recognised sports club or school sports team and under the supervision of a qualified coach for their chosen sport.

Martin Hudson, PGL Director responsible for sponsorship, said: "PGL arranges a wide range of activities and sports for youngsters across Britain and Europe. We provide basic introductions to activities - this can often provide the springboard for people to get into a new sport, eg fencing, canoeing, climbing, archery. It's also healthy exercise and enables new skills to be developed.

"We think it's great supporting youngsters who have the dedication to progress further in their sports which is why this year we've sponsored Ready Steady Win's bursary awards.''

Last year, PGL sponsored Ready Steady Win, including two bursaries for Alasdair Holbourn (skiing) and Rob Farrington (orienteering).

The PGL Bursaries and the accolade of Sportsperson of the Year 2006, sponsored by the Leadership Trust, will be awarded at the charity's annual golf day on Monday, June 19.

Jo Jones, who has returned to Ready, Steady, Win to co-ordinate this event, said: "It's important to remember that our bursaries are ongoing - based on achievement - and not just a one-off cash incentive."
