HEREFORD Driving Club member Emily Ham is all set to represent Wales in the National Indoor Driving Trials Championship at Keysoe in Bedford this weekend.

Emily, aged only 15, gained her place by winning best junior in all five of the qualifying rounds at Yorkley, the indoor driving trials event centre for the Wales and Gloucester region.

Emily, pictured left, who comes from Brecon, will be taking part with her 11.3 Welsh Section A dun pony Welsh Rhapsody with the invaluable assistance of consultant orthodontist Helen Taylor as her backstepper.

Indoor trials consist of three phases: dressage, cones and driving through four complicated obstacles as fast as possible. It requires real teamwork as the pony must be fast and responsive, the driver accurate and skilful and the backstepper agile and brave as they are responsible for keeping the whole vehicle stable.

This will be Emily's second visit to the Indoor Championships where she competed last year with her Shetland pony Sherry.
