A Leominster woman has told how she fought off a mugger while walking home alone at night.

Emma Price was listening to her MP3 player and making her way along Broad Street at 11pm on Monday, January 30, when the stranger approached.

"I had my music blasting away when all of a sudden, I had this huge weight on my back," she said.

"I managed to kick the man before he backhanded me across the face. He went for my handbag but I managed to wrestle it from him and run home."

The 21-year-old managed to get home with all her belongings intact and only sustained slight bruising to her face from the traumatic ordeal.

She said she was over the shock of the attack and wanted to warn others to be more aware when walking home at night.

"My mum always used to say it wasn't a good idea to listen to my MP3 player when I was on my own but I didn't take much notice," she added.

"But I think people should definitely take more care because even in places like Leominster there are dangerous people about."
