One of Ledbury's most historic rooms has a new name and future, as the Panels Restaurant of the Talbot Hotel.

The genuine panelled room in the 16th Century coaching inn, in New Street, has long been regarded as one of the heritage gems of the town,

It was also the scene of a skirmish between Cavaliers and Roundheads during the Civil War. Hotel manager, Andy Ward, is able to show visitors bullet holes in the panelling to prove the account.

The new name of Panels, complete with a new logo showing the name alongside a Civil War rapier, was launched at the hotel on Tuesday evening.

Many prominent people attended, including Ledbury mayor Mary Cooper and representatives from the business community.

They sampled items from a new menu by chef Henry Taylor, a selection of pies, meats and sausages from award-winning butcher David Waller and desserts from Sharon Ford, of Just Desserts.

There was also wine tasting from the hotel's wine list.
