WEST Midlands Police are investigating an allegation of racist comments made at Ledbury Town's away match at Lye on Wednesday night.

Sports journalist Max Hall made a complaint at Halesowen Police Station immediately after the match, concerning comments he said were made by Ledbury chairman Chris Stephens and a supporter.

The following day, Mr Hall emailed a complaint to Neil Juggins, secretary of the West Midlands League.

Mr Juggins said: "It will almost certainly be investigated by the Herefordshire Football Association."

He said the comments were allegedly made early on in the game, which Ledbury Town lost 2-0.

Police spokesman Sarah Astbury said a complaint was filed at 10.15pm on Wednesday evening. She said: "It is being investigated by police."

Mr Hall, who was reporting the match for the Express and Star newspaper, says he will make his concerns known to the Commission for Racial Equality and also the national body of the FA. He said he asked the two men for their names at the game.

Mr Hall, whose father-in-law comes from the Yemen, added: "I have a zero tolerance for racism."

But Mr Stephens said that although he did hear comments at the game that could have been construed as being racist, he did not make those comments, nor were they made by any member of the club or known spectator.

He said: "This is nothing to do with the game or the club. We are not racist and never have been."
