SOUL, drum 'n' bass, hip hop and jungle provided an urban soundtrack to Elevation by Two Faced Dance Company at Hereford Courtyard.

The moves displayed on the dance floor were not entirely the creation of the world's inner cities.

Street-orientated disciplines like breakdancing and parkour were the prominent features of the show, yet ballet and even capoeira were used on stage in a celebration of popular youth culture.

The dancers' enthusiasm was in evidence from the start and the youngest group of dancers, who may not have had the strength to perform head spins, certainly possessed the rhythm required to put their feet to the beats.

The three-member performance to Joss Stone's Victim of a Foolish Heart provided the most moving part of the night.

With imaginative choreography and impeccable timing it would not have looked out of place on MTV as the video to accompany the Devon-born soul star's powerful vocals.

The pace soon accelerated as Whitecross b-boy Munu 'Manuver' Jutle lead his brigade of old school breakers through a series of impressive flips, leaps and spins.

The evening ended with Hereford's own MC collective, the Anomalies, who got the crowd to their feet with their take on the Goldie Lookin' Chain school of rap.
