A SIXTH candidate has joined the fight for Hereford's seat at Westminster.

Former soldier Peter Morton, from Whitney-on-Wye, is standing as an Independent because he is "fed up with what is happening to this country" and wants to do something about it.

Mr Morton, a self-employed carpenter and gravedigger, has never stood for election before and is covering campaign expenses out of his own pocket.

At the close of nominations last week he was up against Paul Keetch (Liberal Democrat), Virginia Taylor (Conservative), Tom Calver (Labour), Christopher Kingsley (UK Independence Party) and Brian Lunt (Green) in fighting for the Hereford seat at the May 5 poll.

The Leominster line-up was unchanged, with Bill Wiggin (Conservative), up against Caroline Williams (Liberal Democrat), Paul Bell (Labour), Peter Venables (UK Independence Party), and Felicity Norman (Green).
