A learning centre has been officially opened after a £1 million refurbishment.

The WRVS Riverside Centre, in Vicarage Road, Hereford, offers activities and courses, conference facilities, day care services and a crche.

Alan Carless, executive director of the Learning and Skills Council said that the centre would prove an important asset to the area. "The Riverside Centre will enrich the lives of hundreds of people from the community and play a critical role in ensuring the long term sustainability and accessibility of lifelong learning for the people of Herefordshire," he added.

Work on the centre was completed last autumn, thanks to funding from the Hereford and Worcester Learning Skills Council, the Adult Learning Capital Fund and additional contributions from the Jordan Foundation, New Opportunities Fund, the contractor Laings and the WRVS.

"This is a fantastic, modern, purpose-built community centre that endorses the WRVS's contemporary approach to providing high quality services to the community - offering something for everyone," said Ruth Nice, development manager for the WRVS.
