MORE than 30 years after it first went on air and two years after the new County Hospital was opened, Hereford Hospital Radio has resumed normal service in a new, updated and improved studio.
From the early days, when programmes were recorded by students of Hereford Sixth Form College and broadcast on Sunday afternoons, the station has evolved into a seven-day-a-week station, offering listeners a wide range of programmes, from comedy and entertainment features through to music, sport and national news.
Jason O'Keefe, who broadcasts a Wednesday lunchtime show, is one of those pleased to be back on the air, and is keen to encourage others to join him.
"We're always looking for people to volunteer, either as broadcasters or behind the scenes," he says. "There's plenty of opportunity for those who want to broadcast and we can generally fit people in to suit their schedules."
Anyone wanting to contact Hereford Hospital Radio, either to volunteer or to make a request for a patient, should call Chris Hughes on 0870 7651236, email information@hhr.org.uk or visit the website www.hhr.org.uk
