Businessman Iain Rollitt-James from landlocked Herefordshire plans to become a full-time sailor for 12 days.

His adventures will take him 1,800 nautical miles round Britain and Ireland and he expects very choppy seas.

Iain, from Wellington, will attempt the challenge in October and has chosen to take part in the annual Round Britain and Ireland Challenge.

He has paid for his own berth on a 72ft racing yacht manned by a crew of 16 and is doing it for a good cause.

He wants to raise money for the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research, which specialises in research into bowel cancer, after his wife, Isobel, needed treatment for the disease.

Eight identical yachts will take part in the race, starting on October 15, setting out from the Solent to race clockwise, non-stop around Britain and Ireland.

Anyone who would like to sponsor Iain can call him on 01432 830708 or go online at www.justgiving.co.uk/iainschallenge
