KNIGHTSBRIDGE Star, ridden by Tom Jenks, became trainer Venetia Williams' 72nd winner of the season with a determined success in the Newtown Handicap Chase at Hereford Race-course's Bank Holiday meeting, writes Graham Saveker.

Despite looking beaten at the second-last fence, Knightsbridge Star rallied well and asserted over second-placed Hawaiian Youth on the run-in with Play Games back in third place.

In the absence of the Kings Caple trainer, who had 74 winners last season, it was left to assistant Shirley Vickery to welcome the winner back.

"After the fall of Jocks Cross in the Irish National earlier on, it was good for this one to score," she said.

Jockey Robert Bellamy was on duty for the Racing Channel in between races but he put his microphone down long enough to win on Long Room Lady in the Holiday Novices Hurdle .

l Point-to-point fixtures were badly hit by the weekend weather.

The Cotswold Vale Farmers meeting at Maisemore Park was postponed, until Monday, May 1 but a date has yet to be set for Teme Valley Hunt's Brampton Bryan fixture.
