BURGHILL Valley moved into the fourth round of the Mail on Sunday team competition with a 4-0 home win over Ross-on-Wye.

Captain Carl Rose led the way with a 3 and 2 victory, and he was backed up with wins from Gareth Watkins, 5 and 4, Dave Marcer, 2 and 1, and Neil Crockett, 1 up.

Playing professional David Park missed the cut in the Spanish Open at Girona on his return to European Tour action after a three-week lay-off.

His two-round total of 251 missed the cut by five shots.The winner was Londoner Brian Davies with his first tour triumph.

This week Park contests the Novotel Perrier French Open at the Golf Club National, Paris.

n Five local club pairings, consisting of the professional and club qualifying winner, will be represented at the regional final of the Lombard Trophy to be played over the new Wentwood Hills course at Celtic Manor, Newport on Tuesday, May 9.

Michael Welsh and Don Filer (Belmont), Nigel Clarke and Alan Strain (Burghill Valley), Dean Oliver and Stan Thornton (Kington), David Hemming and Karl Harris (Herefordshire), and Gary Morgan and Daniel Parker (Hereford Municipal) will be bidding to win the event and a five-day trip to San Lorenzo, Portugal for the grand final in September.
