DEFENDING champions Ewyas Harold kept top spot in the Premier Division of the Hereford Times Herefordshire League with a 4-2 home win over near rivals Sutton United.

Steve Radziejowski scored all four for Harold but only after the visitors had taken the lead in the opening minutes through Lee Ferney-hough.

Radziejowski claimed his first for the equaliser and his second ensured that the half-time score was level at 2-2, Anthony McQuaid being the second Sutton scorer.

After the break United's Shaun Morris was unlucky to hit his own player, Kevin Knapper, with a screaming shot and the ball was deflected over the Harold bar.

Straight from the resultant goal kick, substitute Gareth Thomas played in Radziejowski and the striker made no mistake to put the home side in front.

And Thomas provided Radziejowski's fourth which sealed victory and kept them top of the table by one point, with a home fixture with against Civil Service and a visit to Ross Town to come.

The result left Sutton third, but they would need a cricket score in their last game at home to Woofferton on Saturday to take the crown on goal difference, even if Harold were to lose their last two matches.

Sutton won 4-1 at fellow title contenders Wooffer-ton in midweek, after they recovered from an early goal by Steve Minton.

Central defender Steve Miles levelled the scores from 25 yards just before half-time and 10 minutes after the interval Kevin Knapper hammered United into the lead with 12-yard effort.

Anthony McQuaid made it three within 10 minutes when he drove home from just outside the box and right-back Richard Allman completed the scoring.

Woofferton could only draw 2-2 at home to Pegasus - a result which dented the championship ambitions of the former side and ended the latter's.

The visitors were 2-0 up with just 10 minutes remaining, courtesy of a brace from Gavin Stone who was outstanding for Pegasus, but their hosts mounted a late fight-back to share the points.

Rob Bradley scored from close range before Rob Banks found the target after a shot from Bradley had been pushed away.

Despite these setbacks, Woofferton remain as contenders with a game in hand over the top two and travel to Civil Service tonight, to Sutton on Saturday and play host to Fownhope on a date to be arranged.

Last year's runners-up, Fownhope, lead the pursuit of Harold in second position after a 4-1 win at home to Weston.

Tim Hargreaves opened the scoring in the first few minutes and Weston equalised on the half-hour, when Paul Burnham ran 50 yards and chipped the keeper from the edge of the box.

Weston's Shane Bruton then had an effort saved when he was through one-on-one and Fownhope went straight down the other end and took the lead through Roy Oval.

Hargreaves increased the lead when he grabbed his second midway through the second half and Roger Moore made it four in the last 10 minutes.

Fownhope were previously held to a 3-3 home draw against Westfields in midweek.

Steve Higgins and Matt Maclean gave the visitors an early two-goal lead before Tim Hargreaves, Darren Smith and Ben Corner founded a resurgence to make it 3-2 to Fownhope.

However, Westfields had the last word when Maclean snatched a superb equaliser in the 86th minute.

Fownhope meet Ross United Services on Saturday in their quest to overhaul Harold and have a tough fixture at Woofferton to be arranged.

Ross Town came back to triumph 5-3 at home to bottom team Lads Club after the city side had taken a 3-1 lead with a fine hat-trick from Scott Bruton.

His first goal was despatched from a one-on-one situation, the second on the stroke of half-time with a 30-yard lob, and he completed his treble after he dispossessed the Town defence and ran on to score.

Anthony Jenkins cancelled out Bruton's first strike with a well-taken finish to a good passing move but with less than 25 minutes remaining Town were still two down.

However, they pulled one back through Andrew Trotman and Jenkins scored his second to take Town level.

And two strikes in the last five minutes took the points - Trotman scored first from close range and then completed his hat trick when he rode a challenge and finished from a tight angle.
