Leominster Town 1 Wellington 2

THIS Leominster Senior Cup final clash between neighbouring Banks's Brewery West Midlands Division 1 South rivals produced some excellent, attractive football, with Wellington snatching victory with a brace from Mark Cross.

The clubs had already figured in four close matches this season and this derby clash at Bridge Street Park proved no exception, with Wellington edging into an interval lead when Cross headed home a cross at the near post.

Leominster opened brightly in the second half and deservedly levelled when Gareth George seized on a half-clearance to chip the goalkeeper from 25 yards.

Play moved from end to end as both sides pushed forwards in search of a winner. With only minutes left Brad Pearson launched a swift Wellington counter-attack and set up Cross with a beautifully weighted through ball which he lifted over the keeper.

Leominster came back and just failed to force extra time when Chris Price's first-time volley flew over the bar.

On Saturday Leominster travelled to Ledbury for a Division 1 South clash, only to be thwarted when the referee ruled the pitch unfit an hour before the scheduled kick-off.
