Causeway Utd 1 Westfields 0

WESTFIELDS should avoid relegation from the Premier Division of the Banks's Brewery West Midlands League by the skin of their teeth, despite a defeat at runners-up Causeway on Monday.

Their last game of the season could have been their last in the division, but for a draw for fellow strugglers Walsall Wood.

Walsall were held 3-3 against Little Drayton Rangers which means they now need to win their final game by 12 goals to overtake Fields on goal difference.

Westfields put up a hard fight at Causeway but the home side took the lead in the second half when Neil Taylor converted a cross from Matt Hollis.

And, despite good pressure and several opportunities, Fields could not find an equaliser.

However, a 1-1 draw with Dudley Town on Saturday in Westfields' last ever league game at Rotherwas helped the city club's Houdini act after they had propped up the table for much of the season.

Dudley weathered home pressure for the first 35 minutes but could not stop Mark Hibbard when he nipped in to head Westfields in front.

But the visitors hit back just six minutes before the final whistle when Kieron Jackson beat Jon Pugh with an 18-yard volley for the equaliser.
