THE award-winning Leominster Junior School Choir is busy rehearsing for a major competition that, if their track record is anything to go by, should prove a success.

The singers are hoping to make a winning entry at the Sainsbury's Junior Choir of the Year event at Warwick on May 6.

People keen to hear the impressive sounds of these youngsters can take the opportunity to enjoy their talents at a concert with the Off Broadway Singers at Leominster Priory Church.

'The End of a Perfect Day' on May 29 is part of a series of musical events in north Herefordshire celebrating BBC Music Live Week.

The school choir was awarded the Fletcher Cup and the Millennium Shield by the Herefordshire Festival of Music, Speech, Dance and Drama and was named its Choir of the Year.

With the Millennium Shield for the most entertaining performance came a well-earned £50 cheque.

The recorder band had also gained the highest overall mark in its category, scooping the Ashfield Park Cup.

Headteacher Ian Foster said: "It was wonderful to see so many children from the school involved in the different parts of the festival.

"They all make a tremendous effort preparing for their performances and we are very proud of them all."
