IN THE final of the Under 12's Llewellyn Cup played at Hereford on Sunday, Swifts came up against old rivals Ross and this time came out on top of another close affair.

Ledbury SWIFTS 3, ROSS UNITED SERVICES 2

Swifts were slow to start, it was Ross made the brighter start and struck first when from a free kick just outside th box Swifts were made to pay when goalkeeper Mike Hill was given no chance from the free kick. However this proved the spur Swifts needed and it was soon 1-1 when Captain Daniel Herbert hit a left foot screamer in to the top corner. Inspired Swifts now really put Ross on the back foot as the midfield of Simpson, Herbert, Jack Hodges and Tom Locke got hold of the game. Swifts soon took the lead when a free kick taken by Daniel Herbert found the head of Jack Hodges to make it 2-1.

The Swifts defence of Dunn, Hinchcliffe, Rutherford and Matthew Hodges were keeping a close eye on the Ross forwards as Swifts continued to press forward. Mark Carless soon had the Swifts supporters cheering again when he made it 3-1 with a left foot shot to put Ledbury well in control at half time.

Ledbury started the second half in determined mood and Matthew Hodges and Oliver Dunn kept things tight on the flanks with some timely challenges and the impressive Tim Rutherford was keeping Ross danger man Radziejowski well shackled. In midfield Jack Hodges was starting to see more of the ball and up front Nick McNielage and Mark Carless continued to look dangerous.

However, it was Ross who scored when Radziejowski got free and from wide on the right, floated a shot over Mike Hill to set up a nervous few minutes.

Ross almost equalised when a shot hit the bar just before the end but the Swifts' supporters were soon celebrating as the final whistle went to give the team their first triumph.

A just reward for all the hard work by the players and in particular for the hard work of the management team of Mervin Carless and Mark Herbert.
