FARMERS and growers are being offered training in a wealth of rural skills in a vocational training scheme under the MAFF Rural Development Programme.
7Y Machinery Ring at Leominster is among the first in the area to secure funding for the skills programme.
Farmers and growers who have identified the need for specific skills to support their business ventures and new projects can receive training at greatly reduced prices.
The main areas to be covered are technical skills to diversify and find other sources of income away from the family farm; conservation and environmental courses, including coppice and farm woodland management, hedge-laying, stone walling, tree planting and pesticide management. There will be business management and staff development and computer training. 7Y's computer courses will range from basic to using the internet and business management. There is a 'drop-in' computer club on Thursday nights.
