BURGHILL Valley golf professional David Park showed a welcome return to form when he posted a 12-under-par total of 280 (71,72,72,65) for a share of 17th place in the Greg Norman Holden Inter-national at the Lakes Golf Club, Sydney.

His eight-under-par final round of 65 was the best round of the day and brought him right up through the field for his most lucrative finish on the European Tour this year.

Commenting on his performance Park said: "I was hitting the ball well from tee to green and in that last round I started to hole a few putts."

He is taking a couple of weeks off and returns to European Tour action when he flies off to Dubai for the Desert Classic starting on March 1.

Nineteen-year-old Australian wonder boy Aaron Baddeley became only the fifth teenager to win a European Tour title when he beat Spain's 21-year-old prodigy Sergio Garcia with a 20-foot birdie putt at the first hole of a play-off after they had finished level on 21-under-par 271.

n Although going down 2- at Ludlow in the first leg of the quarter-final of the Shropshire and Herefordshire Har-grove Trophy, Burghill Valley still have a realistic chance of making the semi-finals.

Carl Rose and Gareth Watkins lost two down, Guy Haines and Dave Marcer lost one down, and Elliot Shaw and Neil Crockett halved. With home advantage in this weekend's return leg they could well reverse the result of the first match and take the tie on holes up.

Competitors took full advantage of a much shortened winter course and frost holes to post some remarkable scores in the February medal. Results, gross: 1 Gareth Watkins 66, 2 Colin Jones 69, 3 Guy Evans 71; nett: 1 Bernie Green 72-21-51, 2 Colin Jones 69-17-52, 3 Stuart Clark 80-27-53.

nHerefordshire GC teams suffered mixed fortunes in the Hargrove Plate competition. The A team secured their place in the semi-finals with a 2-1 home leg win over Worfield for a 3-2 aggregate victory. Neil Greening and Ian Carpenter won two up, Robin Eckley and Andy Smart won two up, and John McQuillan and Jonathan Devereux lost two down.

The B team could not recover the 2- deficit from the first leg defeat at Hill Valley, going down 2-1 in the home leg.

John Devereux and Andrew Barr won three up, but both Steve Griffiths and Andy Swift, and Denis Harwood and Wyn Owen, lost one down.
