Westfields 0 Dudley Town 1

WESTFIELDS enjoyed long periods of domination but could not find a way through the hard tackling Dudley defence and eventually made a mistake at the back to slip to their ninth Banks's Brewery West Midlands League Premier Division defeat of the season.

The teams were well matched in both effort and commitment. Steve Higgins and Mark Hibbard had first-half chances for Westfields but fired free-kicks from just outside the box over the bar, and at the other end goalkeeper Jon Pugh did well to punch a menacing cross clear and save well at his near post.

After the interval Westfields continued to press and almost broke the deadlock when Matt Phillips put Higgins through. The striker was hauled down just outside the box but Derek Craddock's direct free- kick went agonisingly wide of the post.

Westfield surged forward and forced four corners in a 10-minute spell but were rocked back in the 75th minute when their defence failed to clear a Dudley attack. The ball was pumped back into the box and Phil Mills beat Matt Morris to the ball to drive home the winner from 12 yards.
