THE Lion Ballroom in Leominster continues to attract top class artists for the coming season of The Leominster Concert Series.

The first concert this spring, on April 18, sees the internationally acclaimed soprano Evelyn Tubb returning to Leominster to give a programme of songs by George Frederick Handel.

Evelyn has been hailed by critics as 'one of the few truly outstanding sopranos of her generation', and is attracting ever-increasing admiration for her innovative and adventurous performances which breathe life and character into both familiar and forgotten songs. As a member of the Consort of Musicke, and in her partnership with Emma Kirkby and Anthony Rooley, Evelyn has made dozens of recordings and given concerts and broadcasts in the USA, Japan, Australia, Israel and East and West Europe. Her energy and enthusiasm enable her to combine this flourishing career as a performer with the post of professor of singing at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland, which she visits every other week.

She will be joined in this performance by violinist Sharon Lindo, harpsichordist Steven Devine and cellist David Hatcher, who perform together with Evelyn throughout the country and are frequent contributors to the Leominster Concert Series.

Look out for other events at the Lion Ballroom, including the successful 'Flicks in the Sticks' series of blockbuster films shown monthly (two showings of 'Billy Elliot' were sold out in March, so book early for 'The Horse Whisperer' in April), and the remaining concerts given as part of The Leominster Concert Series, with renowned cellist Richard Tunnicliffe (June 28) and the return to England of the fantastic lute song duo Mutsumi Hatano and Takashi Tsunoda (July 14).
