THE embracing of new technology by rural communities will be reflected in the 2001 Herefordshire Village of the Year competition.
For the first time ever there will be an Information Technology Award for villages to show off their computer skills to the judges.
Details of this year's competition have already been sent out to all villages in the county, with categories including the environment, business, care for older people, care for younger people and general community life, in addition to the new IT section.
Organiser Jean Haigh, on behalf of Herefordshire Federation of Women's Institutes (HFWI), said: "Villages should not be concerned if they are not able to complete all the sections.
"Our judges, as well as looking for an overall winner, will also be making awards in the respective categories."
Judging takes place in July and August with the results announced at Hereford Town Hall on September 10.
The overall winner will go on to represent the county in the Calor Gas/Daily Telegraph Village of the Year for England and Wales.
For further information please contact HFWI at 90 St Owen Street, Hereford HR1 2QD on 01432 272268 or call competition organiser Jean Haigh on 01886 880466.
